Job Description

Redheads Engineering Solutions is currently assisting a client in Rustenburg to recruit a Civil/Structural Technologist or Technician to join their team on a contractual basis.

 

R 650/h – R 1000/h depending on qualifications, experience, and skills.

Experience Required:

 

  • Proficiency in SIMM (Structural Inspection and Maintenance Management) specifically related to mining structures is essential.
  • Experience in conducting structural surveys and assessments of community houses/buildings.
  • Familiarity with reviewing construction drawings and designs while ensuring compliance with local government building regulations.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Conducting condition surveys on houses/buildings within the proximity of the blasting area.
  • Conducting visual assessments to identify visible structural damage and evaluate adherence to engineering best practices.
  • Reviewing construction drawings to verify compliance with local government building regulations.
  • Assessing structural damage potentially caused by blasting operations using engineering judgment.
  • Reviewing previous structural condition survey reports and compiling comprehensive structural condition survey reports.
  • Conducting follow-up surveys to monitor structural changes in the inspected houses/buildings.

 

Houses/Buildings to be Inspected:

 

  • The selection and quantity of houses to be inspected will be determined collaboratively by the Client, and local/community leaders.
  • Houses suspected of damage related to blasting operations.
  • Additional houses for inspection based on distance from the blasting area, size, and overall condition.

 

Assumptions:

 

  • Inspections will be conducted on houses within a 500m radius of the blasting area as per the Mine Health and Safety Act Regulation 4.16(2).
  • Additionally, inspections will extend beyond the 500m radius based on predetermined criteria.

 

Educational Background:

 

  • A relevant diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.

 

Technical Skills:

 

  • Proficiency in CAD software, structural analysis tools, and engineering principles relevant to construction and structural design.
  • Understanding of building codes, regulations, and standards related to construction and structural engineering.
  • Practical experience in conducting structural surveys, assessments, and inspections. Familiarity with construction drawings, designs, and project management aspects.
  • Specific expertise in areas such as SIMM (Structural Inspection and Maintenance Management of Mining Structures), project planning, and site inspection.

 

Problem-solving Abilities:

 

  • Capability to assess structural integrity, identify issues, and propose solutions.

 

Communication Skills:

 

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to various stakeholders, including clients, engineers, and construction teams.
