Job Description

Redheads Engineering is currently recruiting for a key position with our esteemed client, a prominent player in the Independent Power Producer (IPP) industry.

 

Salary: R 1,8m – R 2,5 million Cost to company per annum.

 

We are looking for a Senior Developer to join our client, a significant influencer in the renewable energy sector, located in Western Cape.

 

About the Role:

 

  • You will be aligned within the Development Division, reporting directly to the Head of Developments, you will be responsible and ultimately accountable for the comprehensive development of projects, ensuring their successful progression to financial closure within a specified budget and timeframe.
  • You will also lead and engage with environmental, off-take, legal, grid, engineering, and construction teams.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Initiate the development and execution of wind and/or solar projects, overseeing the entire lifecycle from site control initiation to financial closure.
  • Direct the management of technical, commercial, and financial aspects of projects.
  • Take the lead in devising technical concepts and solutions, ensuring their seamless integration into project frameworks.
  • Engage with local interest groups, landowners, and I&APs throughout the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes.
  • Collaborate with PPA/offtake teams to facilitate bidding processes and secure Power Purchase Agreements.
  • Ensure vigilant oversight of compliance with consent and lease obligations.
  • Cultivate and sustain robust relationships with local communities, landowners, government agencies, NGOs, and diverse stakeholders.
  • Guide the project interface across various work packages, including finance, legal, technical, permitting, and grid connection.
  • Oversee and mentor junior developers.

 

Key Tasks:

 

  • Obtain all necessary project permits and consents.
  • Secure acquisition, servitude, and lease agreements for required land parcels.
  • Facilitate effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Interface with the Off-Take team to actively drive the Power Purchase Agreement process.
  • Coordinate closely with the Renewable Engergy Independent Power Producer Procurement & Commercial Bid Manager.
  • Ensure timely updates of inputs in the financial model.

 

Required Skills and Education Background:

 

  • Master's degree in engineering, project management, or a relevant field.
  • 7+ years' experience working with large renewable energy projects.
  • Experience from a similar role with the same level of responsibility and tasks.
  • Strong project management, communication, and relationship skills.
  • Leadership skills to manage junior developers.
  • Financial close experience.
  • Legal close experience.
  • Required to have commercial experience.
