Job Description

We are seeking a Project Director: Renewable Energy with experience in large-scale project execution, stakeholder management, and portfolio leadership across solar, wind, and energy storage.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Portfolio Management:
    • Direct a portfolio of renewable energy projects through all phases from construction to operations
    • Develop dashboards and KPIs to monitor performance and risks
    • Align project delivery with strategic and regulatory targets (REIPPPP, IRP)
    • Oversee smooth transition from financial close to execution
    • Support negotiation of EPC and PPA agreements
  • Project Oversight & Leadership:
    • Lead cross-functional teams (project managers, engineers, contractors)
    • Manage entire project lifecycle including procurement, construction, and COD
    • Ensure compliance with EPC, PPA, and O&M contract terms
    • Engage with Eskom, DMRE, NERSA, communities, and environmental bodies
    • Monitor construction for cost, schedule, and quality control
    • Oversee project close-out and operational readiness
  • Risk & Compliance:
    • Identify and mitigate project and portfolio risks
    • Ensure adherence to environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements
    • Promote ESG, B-BBEE, and localisation targets
    • Report on progress, risks, and results to executives
  • Financial & Team Management:
    • Manage budgets, cash flow, and funding models
    • Collaborate on investor reporting and ROI tracking
    • Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team
    • Coordinate input across legal, technical, commercial, and O&M teams

 

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • MBA, SACPCMP, PMP, or Prince2 certification (advantageous)
  • 10+ years’ experience in large-scale infrastructure or energy projects, 5+ in renewables
  • Proven success managing multiple utility-scale energy projects
  • Knowledge of REIPPPP, EIA, permitting, and SA energy policy
  • Experienced in EPC contract management (FIDIC, NEC)
  • Commercial, strategic, and regulatory acumen
  • Skilled in MS Project, Primavera, and ERP systems
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
